2025 Canadian Statutory Holidays

The next holiday is Victoria Day in 23 days.

Information about holidays in Canada for 2025 and long weekend details.

Canada Day is on a Tuesday in 2025. It is a national statutory holiday. Many people will no doubt try to turn this holiday into a four-day long weekend by taking Monday off.

Easter in 2025 is on April 18 (Good Friday) and Easter Sunday is on April 20. Easter Monday in 2025 is on April 21. Easter is not on a fixed day. Easter in 2025 is later in the year which means there is a two month gap without holidays after Family Day/Islander Day/Heritage Day.

Remembrance Day will be on Tuesday in 2025. It is a federal statutory holiday but not in every province and territory. It is not a holiday in Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Ontario and Quebec. This is the source of an ongoing debate about making Remembrance Day a holiday across Canada.

Christmas in 2025 is on a weekday: Christmas day is on a Thursday and Boxing Day following on Friday. For most workplaces this means there is no need to coordinate taking time off with your coworkers for this week because in 2025 it is by default an extra long Christmas weekend.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is observed on September 30, which is a Tuesday in 2025. This relatively new holiday has sparked controversy because it's only for federally regulated workers in some provinces. In British Columbia, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Yukon and the Northwest Territories it is a general public holiday.

2025 is not a leap year. 2024 was a leap year. The next leap year will be 2028.

What does the schoolyear start in 2025?

Most school boards across Canada in 2025 will start the schoolyear on Tuesday September 2, a day after Labour Day but there may be exceptions so please confirm this with your local school board.

Daylight saving time in 2025

Daylight saving time starts on March 9 at 3 am local time and it ends on Sunday November 2. In the spring you need to set clocks forward one hour and in the fall set them back one hour. During summer months this means that the sun sets later, resulting in more daytime. Abolishing this practice has long been on the table but it is still in place.

Simpler holiday rules?

Do you find the provincial exceptions too complicated to remember? How you would change Canada's convoluted holiday system?

Are daylight / daytime savings still in effect in 2025 or has that now been cancelled?

So many holidays are in the middle of the week in 2025. I will need to take time off to turn them into long weekends :(
